How Commonwealth Bank stays first in the race


Commonwealth Bank strives to provide the best banking experience for both customers and employees via a range of programs and initiatives. These include their Next Chapter CanGive Appeal, graduate programs, diversity networks and much more which all work together to give CommBank an advantage in the Australian banking industry.

  1. Emphasis on putting an end to financial abuse

CommBank prioritises the safety and financial wellbeing of their customers. The Next Chapter Commitment is a program which works to take action against financial abuse. Four main actions they focus on are; supporting customers via a specialist community wellbeing team, encouraging independence for survivors of financial abuse, raising awareness and improving their own services and products. Additionally, The Next Chapter CanGive Appeal provides support for families fleeing financial and domestic violence through donations, which CommBank matches, up to $300,000.

2. Employee Support

This plays a pivotal role in having widespread ATM and branch access, such that they have most ATMs in the country having up to 2,000 ATMs and 900 branches with the most points of customer access. On the other hand, Westpac as a key competitor has the biggest overseas ATM network. This makes CommBank a safer option to deposit your savings or take out a loan.


4. Active opportunities - Graduate Program and Summer Intern Program

CommBank exclusively offers their very own Summer Intern Program and Graduate program to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Graduate Program is designed as a 18 months rotational program for gaining skills from being in different teams and launching a long-term career with CommBank. You will be a full-time permanent employee, and at the completion of the program, you will be assisted in finding a role that best meets your skills and interests. The Summer Intern Program is a 10-week placement that allows you to get a taste of what it's like to work at CommBank. This position comprises working on exciting and difficult real-world projects while also expanding your professional network within CommBank. Most roles are based in Sydney but they have also adopted hybrid ways of working.
